First Olive Harvest

First Olive Harvest in Montepulciano, Tuscany

This year, we picked the olives on our own, as many of our trees weren’t producing yet: they were left unattended for years, and we’ll need some time to help them “get back in shape“. Quite literally in fact: they haven’t been pruned for years and grew vertically.

At the end of winter, we pruned the trees to help them get back into the empty, low vase shape they are supposed to have: with no branches in the center of the tree and lower branches that facilitate harvesting. The trees that needed less pruning this year are the ones that produced more olives,

We were blessed with amazing weather for our first olive harvest, this October.

We gathered 76 kg of organic olives and took them to the Frantoio – the mill. Soon, we’ll be picking up the oil.

We just can’t wait to taste our olive oil!
